Using This Hub

The documentation hub is organized into sections. To browse the sections, use the sidebar. Each section contains articles meant to help you make the most of Online Writing App by guiding you through its features.

Each article has a table of contents that enables you to quickly jump between headings. On phones and tablets, the table of contents appears at the top of the article. On laptops and desktop computers, it appears to the right of the article.

Although we’ve made Online Writing App as simple as possible to use, we encourage every user to review this documentation. It will help you understand how each feature of our text editor works, and how you can use those features to write without distraction.

About Online Writing App

Online Writing App is a minimalist text editor based entirely in your browser. It turns the browser tab or window into a blank page so you can shut out distractions and write.

Unlike other text editors, which make you download and install software or ask you to create an account, you can open Online Writing App in a new tab and start writing straight away—there's no installation or registration needed.

Other text editors also store your work in the cloud. Some, especially those with AI proofreading, even use your work to train their own large language models! When you pay for those editors, you’re paying for someone else to train their AI on your writing.

Online Writing App is different: it stores your work locally, in your browser, on an IndexedDB database within your device, so your writing never leaves your device unless you choose to export and publish it elsewhere.
